Dr. Matt Johnson is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Mental Performance Consultant for Texas Health Sports Medicine. As a former quarterback at Notre Dame, he has been teaching athletes the mental skills to become more focused, less anxious, and more confident toward achieving their peak performance. NiEtta has an in-depth discussion with Dr. Johnson about the psychological effects of sports injuries, how an athlete responds to the injury—emotionally, behaviorally, physically, and cognitively and how this can significantly affect the athlete’s mental health negatively if not handled appropriately.
NiEtta and Cary also interviewed professional American boxer Zachary Wohlman, known as Kid Yamaka. Zachary’s journey has been challenging but inspirational; in showing how sports can be a vehicle for overcoming life challenges. Sit back and enjoy the interview.
